The Maselli factory has developed over the past several years a specialized remote command and data acquisition software for the Maselli Multi-Line BAS-01 Monitoring and Control System for carbonated soft drinks. The program in its present configuration supports up to 8 beverage lines, up to 4000 feet cable distance away from the lab, with one computer. Having been completely developed internally within the Maselli company, it is possible to add new features in the future to respond to particular suggestions or requests from customers regarding ways to further improve the software.

The following list defines some of the important features currently offered in the MultiLab-III system:

Wizard Setup
The program can be quickly personalized by the customer in the way that he or she prefers, such as:

  • Select the working directory
  • Define the number of lines, and assign a custom name for each line
  • Define the type of proportioning system (volumetric pump, orifice system, etc.)
  • Select the frequency for saving the data
  • Select the number and type of display panels (Numerical, Graphical, Mixed, Statistical, Multiline and Quality Parameters)
  • Select the types of report panels (for display and for printing)
  • Select the types of graphical recall panels (for display and for printing)
  • Select the types of statistical panels (for display and for printing)

Remote Command
It is possible to view and change remotely from the MultiLab-III computer all of the functions available at the IB-01 analyzer field panel, such as:

  • Change calibrations (zero and span)
  • Send new recipe at flavor changeover
  • Change operating parameters (alarms, targets, etc.)
  • Acknowledge and silence alarms both in the lab and at the analyzer panel
  • View the optical image from the IB-01 Brix Analyzer on line
  • Manually reposition from the laboratory the micrometer water (or syrup) valve. (This feature requires the optional automatic Brix control feature.) A stepping motor and electronic position encoder mounted on the valve assembly guarantee precise positioning.
  • Manually adjust from the laboratory the CO2 pressure in the saturator tank, or the CO2 injection flowrate, using the pneumatic regulators installed on the equipment. (This feature requires the optional automatic CO2 control feature.)

Simplified Control Panel Display
A simplified control panel indicates the current beverage flavor, with large displays for Brix, Diet and CO2 values. This panel also provides quick access to change key functions such as calibrations for the measured values, standardizing Diet products, sending new flavor recipes and acknowledging alarm conditions. The display also shows the key process variables graphed over the last half hour, with ability to scroll back several hours of data saved in memory.

Flavor Recipe Management
The customer can create and save up to 1000 individual flavor setups (including product information, Brix, and CO2 target values, calibrations, etc.). It is possible to also define which parameters will be sent to the IB-01 analyzer panel when sending the recipe setup, and which will not. Having optimized the working parameters for the flavor currently in production, it is possible to "recall" and save the current parameters for use in other recipes as well.

Data Analysis
It is possible to view and analyze the real time data as well as data from the historical files. This analysis can be either graphical or numerical. Statistical and quality parameters available directly in the MultiLab-III program include:

  • Standard Deviation
  • Average
  • Quality Parameters Ca, Cp, Cpk
  • Percent of time in line stop
  • Percent of time in line alarm

Graphs for the above have already been created for the user's convenience. However, it is also possible for the user to customize which of the parameters are collected, viewed and saved, as well as create and save new graphs and reports of particular interest.

Data Transmission
Data stored on the MultiLab-III hard disk is available for use in other software in Access database format, or can be converted for Excel or other spreadsheets by exporting it in ASCII format. An additional serial port is available to request and receive real time data from the MultiLab-III computer using the Optomux protocol.

If a customer wishes to use continuous mA-input chart recorders, it is also possible to connect the MultiLab-III by serial output to Maselli's optional Multi-Recorder panel.

Network Capabilities
The MultiLab-III is designed to work over a normal LAN network with other client computers. In this way it is possible for personnel in other departments to observe in real time over the network the same data from each beverage line, and to print reports, graphs and statistical analyses without affecting the principle operation of the MultiLab-III computer.

Output Relays
The MultiLab-III includes 8 relay outputs, to which the user can connect acoustic or visual alarms. The user can also define which alarm event shall activate each relay output.

Modem Connection
Using the internal modem, the Maselli technical department can connect to the MultiLab-III computer by telephone line, and interact directly with the BAS-01 system to perform remote diagnostics and trouble-shooting.

Acquiring other Parameters
It is also possible to collect other data through the BAS-01 system, such as number of cans or bottles, temperatures, pressures, flowrates, etc.

Multimedia
The MultiLab-III system is already configured to utilize both multimedia sound and voice messages, which can be selected and customized by the user. This feature requires only the installation of optional sound card and speakers.

On Line Help
A Help feature is available to assist the user to solve eventual problems.

Printer
Using the appropriate Windows printer driver, it is possible to print from the MultiLab-III program to any type of modern printer.

Languages
The MultiLab-III can be set up to display in Metric or USA units, as well as any of four languages (English, Spanish, French and Italian).
